Do
you have a “ho hum” or “bah hum bug” type of imprint on your pen?
Are you putting too much ad copy, or the "wrong" ad copy on your pen?
Many of my
customers use pens as informational vehicles only. There are certainly times
and uses for that type of imprint. But with a little more thought your pen
could “say less” and be appreciated more. With so many ways for customers to
find us, we no longer have to transfer everything from our business cards to
our pen. Take a risk, have faith, and trust that by using less copy and only
the copy that truly identifies the pen as coming from you and your business,
you can have greater impact.
TIP: By strategically using "just the right" ad copy for your imprint such as only using your business name, or business name with only an additional phone number or web address, this directs the prospect/customer exactly where you want to lead them; and the perception to the recipient is that you are already “well
known”, “nationally known”, “big”, "established", etc.
For instance, what if you only had your
business name on the pen and that’s all? Scary, right? You’re thinking that “Oh
my gosh, the person who finds this pen or who I give it to will never find my
business.
Not so! Try something. Enter “My Imprint Rep” into your address bar
at the top of your web page (without the www. before it). You’ll see that our
website is shown about 3 times in different ways. Now try it with just your
business name. (If your business doesn’t show up in the listings, you need my
marketing consulting, which is for another article). But I’m sure that it did
show up. Now don’t you think that when you have a nice pen with only your
business name on it that people will find you? Believe it; it’s true, they
will! If you are not yet ready to believe that “less is more” keep your business name on the pen but use only one other element such as your phone number, your web address, or similar. Want to
direct your prospect to your website or a specific page on your website? Be strong here; don't waver. Ready? Don’t
use your business name at all (or if you’ve been a “smart” marketer your
business name is your website name) just use the website or
webpage address: www.myimprintrep.com,
www.myimprintrep.com/123order,
MyImprintRepDOTcom, MyImprintRep, www.MyImprintRep,
etc.
Using less ad copy, but strategically can set you apart from competitors who don't use these tips.
BONUS: Here’s a “quicky tip”: Try something similar to this
short phrase for your business message on a pen: PENS Call me: 888-241-4031
Make it a great day!
